Paintings inspired by the secret spaces between girlhood and their imaginings
This exhibition delves into the hidden world of girls; the secret spaces that lie between dreaming and becoming, where reality blurs with fantasy and nothing is quite as it seems. Drawing inspiration from the worlds of play acting, ritual, fairytale and masquerade, the paintings suggest imagined, incoherent narratives that are both individual and universal, spanning time and memory. The paintings explore the inner world of tweens, capturing the fleeting moments of a time of transition where anything is possible. The boundaries are blurred - day and night, light and dark, stories and reality, childhood and adulthood. These works explore the in-between space in a world of toys, costumes and games that defy explanation to anyone outside that world.
